    Talks by Ajahn Pasanno

Ven. Pasanno Bhikkhu took ordination in Thailand in 1974, with Ven. Phra Khru Nanasirivatana as preceptor. During his first year as a monk he was taken by his teacher to meet Ajahn Chah, with whom he asked to be allowed to stay and train. One of the early residents of Wat Pah Nanachat, Ven. Pasanno became its abbot in his seventh year. During his incumbency Wat Pah Nanachat developed considerably, both in physical size and in reputation, and Ajahn Pasanno has become a very well-known and highly respected monk and Dhamma teacher in Thailand. Ajahn Pasanno moved to California on New Year's Eve of 1997 to share the abbotship of Abhayagiri.

Born in England in 1956, Ven. Amaro Bhikkhu received his B.Sc. in Psychology and Physiology from the University of London. Spiritual searching led him to Thailand, where he went to Wat Pah Nanachat, a forest-tradition monastery established for Western disciples of the Thai meditation master Ajahn Chah, who ordained him as a bhikkhu in 1979. He returned to England and joined Ajahn Sumedho at the newly established Chithurst Monastery. He resided for may years at the Amaravati Buddhist Centre north of London, making trips to California every year during the 1990's. Since June of 1996 he has lived at Abhayagiri Monastery. He has written an account of his 830-mile trek from Chithurst to Harnham Vihara called Tudong-- the Long Road North, republished in the expanded book Silent Rain, now available for free distribution, and he edited The Pilgrim Kamanita, a Buddhist novel, published in 1999.

    Talks by Ajahn Sundara

Ajahn Sundara was born in France in 1946. She studied contemporary dance and ballet in England and France. After an active life as a dancer and contemporary dance teacher, a period of deep questioning ensued. In 1978, she attended a talk given by Ajahn Sumedho where he spoke about his life as a Buddhist monk. It resonated deeply. Before long, she asked to join the community at Chithurst Monastery (Cittaviveka) as one of the first four women novices. Since then, she has participated in the establishment of the nuns' community and training. Since the late 1980s, she has taught and led meditation retreats in Europe and North America

    Talks by Ajahn Jitindriya

Ven. Jitindriya was born in Sydney, Australia in 1963. While studying art at college, she became more deeply interested in spiritual questions and investigating the nature of perception and consciousness. After graduating with a Diploma in Visual Art and working for a couple of years, 'the search' took the form of travel through South-East Asia, India and Europe. While living and working in England in 1987, she became seriously interested in meditation and the teachings of the Buddha. Feeling a strong connection with the community at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery and the teachings of Ajahn Chah and Ajahn Sumedho, she decided to live and practice in the way of the monastic Sangha there. She took Anagarika (Eight-precept) ordination in 1988 and Siladhara (Ten-precept) ordination in 1990. After living & training in the monasteries in England, as well as spending some time in Australia, a growing need to spend more time alone to focus on and develop the formal practice of meditation has brought her to Abhayagiri, where she has been offered the opportunity to do an extended period of solitary retreat.
